Students from Canada (McGill University, Montreal) and the United States (Ohio State University, Columbus, OH) are currently hosted by the institute in Solingen. Both are visiting Germany for 12 weeks in the course of research internships financed by the Germany Academic Exchange Service (DAAD). A special program, "Research Internships in Science and Engineering" (https://www.daad.de/rise), addresses undergraduate students from the United States, Canada, Great Britain and Ireland. The students are supported and guided by German scientist working on their PhD thesis. In our specific case, one student is contributing to the research activities of Robert Fussik, M.Sc., in the context of hydrogen embrittlement of austenitic stainless steels. The other one is working with Sandra Kernebeck, M.Sc., focusing on materials and sustainable development with a special emphasis on energy and resource efficient production processes for metals.
